Learning About Mobile Windshield Repairs

Hello, my name is Sydney Gray. Welcome to my site. I am excited to share my knowledge about mobile windshield repair on this site. On my way to work on day, my windshield was hit with a rock kicked up by the truck in front of me. When I made it to work, I immediately started looking into my repair options. When I called to schedule an appointment for after work, the windshield repair tech let me know that they could come to me. To prepare for the appointment, I started learning all I could about the process used for onsite replacement and repairs. I will share that information on this site to help others prepare as well.

Frequently Asked Questions About Auto Glass Mold

by Ted Fuller

Many people are not aware of the term auto glass mold. Auto glass mold is a term that is used when mold is present in the seal around your auto glass. This may be in the seals around your car's windows or the windshield. Auto glass mold is a problem that can lead to the seals and the auto glass on your car needing to be repaired. But, if you have never heard of this term before, you may have many questions about it. Here are a few of the questions you may have about auto glass mold.

How Does Mold Get in the Seals of Your Auto Glass?

The most common way that mold gets in the seals of your auto glass is through mold that may be growing in your car. If you spill a drink or leave a wet towel or blanket in the car, mold may grow. As you drive, mold spores may loosen when you hit pot holes or encounter rough patches of road. This can cause the mold spores to go flying into the cracks and crevices around the window. Eventually, they may settle in these cracks and crevices where the seals of your glass also are. Eventually, condensation may build up on the window or water seeps into the cracks and the mold spreads, making the seals of your auto glass its home.

How Can Mold Lead to You Needing an Auto Glass Repair?

As the mold grows, it breaks down the plastic seal. It makes the seal brittle and weak, which causes it to crack or crumble away. The seal may then fail to hold your auto glass firmly in place. It may subtly bounce around or shift. This may cause damage to the glass along the edges. In turn, this causes the glass to shift and move even more, which causes more damage. Over time, your auto glass may not be able to be held into place or can shatter or break due to the shifting.

What Should You Do If You See Mold On Your Auto Glass?

If you see mold along the seals of your auto glass, or around the glass when you roll down your window, you need to take your car to an auto glass repair shop. You should not continue to drive your car for long periods of time until the glass can be inspected and the extent of the damage is known.

Mold can quickly damage the seals around your auto glass. And unfortunately, it is not something you can remove on your own. If you see mold on the seals of your car, you will want to bring your car to an auto glass repair shop, such as FB Glass. They may have to remove the glass to clean the seals or replace them altogether.
